In September 2010 Pope Benedict XVI visited Britain. Upon the annoucement of the first papal visit since 1982, Gordon Brown, our then Prime Minister, declared:

“It would be a moving and momentous occasion for the whole country and he would undoubtedly receive the warmest of welcomes.”
